electronic brains

i have noticed a trend lately that disturbs me. we are allowing electronics to think for us. i am amazed at the number of people who cant read a map. people use a map service on the internet instead of lust looking at the map. i know that much of the new technology is awesome and it will help us have better lives. my problem is that we are trading it for basic skills and common sense. here is an example. earlier this month i was getting picked up from the airport when i realized we were a bit lost. we were going to an arena that was in sight of the road we were on. i even saw signs that lead you right to the front door of the arena. but the driver refused to trust anyone or anything other than the gps on his dash. the gps was obviously wrong but it seemed that finding the place without it was impossible. i had a solution. we could use our common sense and look at the building that we were circling and drive to it. we could even use the big signs. hey, it worked. we made a 10 minute drive into 30. it was fun tho. my problem with technology is that we rely on it too much. if it takes the place of our brains, common sense, and rational thinking then we have messed up. im not sure if anyone will agree with this... ah nevermind. welcome to the world of electronic brains
