underwear

we decided to go to the beach while we were in san diego. when we got there i laid down and got comfortable. a few minutes later i looked up and saw auny standing there in her underwear. there was a moment of shock because it was completely out of character for auny to strip down in front of total strangers in public. so i said"auny are you just gonna stand there in your underwear?" she screamed and rushed to put her clothes back on. ok now the explaination. she thought she was wearing her swimsuit underneath her clothes. she wasnt thinking and forgot. she was going to change into it just prior to us going to the beach but she decided to wait. i guess she thought that she had already changed. the funniest thing was that she didnt even notice till i said something. i have never laughed so hard. we both fell into the sand and laughed for 30 minutes. we are still laughing about this one, and so are you i am sure. by the way, this is a completely true story. now bring on the comments.

uncle brock

i just became an uncle a few hours ago. its wierd to think that my younger sister is old enough to be married and have a baby. i am not sure how to handle this uncle thing. i am so new at it, i might not get it. i hope i dont mess it up. i tried to find a book on "how to be an uncle", but i couldnt find anything. im not sure about this uncle thing. i guess its cool. it feels the same as it did yesterday when i was just a boring old non-uncle. does anyone have any advice on how to be a succesful uncle? if so i sure would like to know. i have met some uncles but i never thought to get advice on just how they do it. please help. im scared.

time off

time off starts for me right now. we have been waiting for this for a long time. auny and i have been so busy. our time off the road has been consumed with work stuff. after our show here in southern california we are off for a long while. our show went so good sunday night. the crowd in so cal gets me. it felt good. as we walked away from the stage i told auny we are now on vacation. im glad the show was so good. its good to have a great memory to hang on to. we are going to go spend a little time in san diego before going back home to nashville. when we get home we will ride motorcycles and chill. this year our time off will not be a vacation that we go on. it will be at home for 3 weeks. it will feel weird. we have never been home that long as long as we have been married.

more than fanmail

i get emails everyday from people all over the country. i read almost all of them. sometimes one will stick out as special. here is one of those special emails that is more than fanmail.

hey brock! you we're in my area not too long ago and i just wanted to say
that i think your awesome! you probably don't remember.
but anyways i've gone through a lot of tough times in the past and i got to
be one of those kids who wears all black, listens to heavy metal, has low
self esteem, and cuts on themselves...but after going to your shows
i relized that i need to turn my life
around and go the direction of jesus christ. so i just wanted to say thank
you for opening up my eyes!!!

i eat healthy

i hate to eat things that are bad for me. i would rather not eat than to have something unhealthy enter my body. i do make some room for chocolate though. i have been doing some cooking lately and i try to cook with all natural and mostly organic products. i am amazed at how much i have lost because of that. when i go out to eat i try to eat vegetables and maybe some fish, turkey, or chicken. i dont eat much red meat anymore because it makes me feel so heavy. sometimes i have to eat what people feed me. during those times i just suck it up and eat it, or i pretend to eat so they arnt offended. any healthy eaters out there?

foot in mouth

reba mcentire said on a recent awards show that if the dixie chicks could sing with their foot in their mouth then she could host the awards show. most of you remember when the dixie chicks got in trouble for talking bad about the president. they have a new record coming out soon that is said to be "unapologetic". here is what i have to say about that. first of all, its a free country. they can say or sing anything they choose. but guess what? you have a choice of buying it or not. personally i dont do politics. i dont like politics in my entertainment. i dont watch movies with political agendas. i try to stay away. there is a time for it, but when i am trying to be entertained i dont want politics. if you dont like someones politics in your face(or ears), then dont buy their records and dont watch their movies, and dont read their books.
what about you guys? do you want politics in your music, movies, etc.???

miracles anyone?

i am writing a book right now. so far the title is "miracles through a magicians eyes". i am working with an author to make it all happen. today i will be meeting with him all day to try to get some more knocked out. we are very excited about the possibilities of this book. it will be my take on miracles. not only will i explore the miracles of jesus but i will talk about the everyday miracles that happen in our lives. i will give personal stories and insights throughout the chapters. i want to have stories that i can use as illustrations. if you have something miraculous that has happened to you or someone you know personally, let me know.

mentor

every tuesday morning, if i am home, i meet with my mentor. i get advice on things and i get to learn from someone wiser than me. i love it. no matter how busy or tired i am i wont miss it. i have learned the value of having a mentor, or not having a mentor. do you have a mentor? if not, why not? we should all have a person in our lives that we can learn from. it can be formal or informal. we need to all be learning from people we respect.

fallen soldier

as i flew home from alabama there was a soldier on the plane who was escorting a soldier who died in iraq. we saw them take the casket off the plane from the luggage area under the plane. it was like a funeral. they had soldiers marching up on the runway and a hearse. it was so sad to see it as they took the body away. it was a cold reminder that we are at still at war. lets pray for our troops right now.

say good bye

sunday will be the last time we see many teenagers who are graduating. i have read that 88% of teenagers will stop attending church after they graduate. josh mcdowells ministry reports that 94% of teens dont attend church withing 2 years. that scares me. we are losing our teenagers. what are we going to do about it?

all day long

its rare for me to be home. when i am at home i usually leave the house and go, go, go. today i stayed home all day long. auny went out to see waterfalls with her friends from college. i stayed home and did whatever i wanted to do. it was nice. i did some yard work, worked on my motorcycle, and rehearsed a new escape. then i grilled shishkabobs for auny and her friends. it feels good to be by myself and do whatever i want to do, all day long.

13 have died

i am doing a new stunt that is very dangerous. many people have heard that i am doing something but dont know what it is. today i will tell you. mom if you are reading this STOP!!!
13 people have died trying to do this stunt. this stunt is the one thing houdini wouldnt do. this is the darkest trick in magic history. when my magician friends heard i was going to attempt this they all tried to talk me out of it. it is said to be "the trick with a curse". it has claimed the lives of some famous magicians in past years. if you keep up with the magic business then you know what i am talking about. "the bullet catch".

celeb sightings in vegas

you all know that i saw criss angel at my hotel. i also saw a few famous and semi famous people around town. i guess the most interesting time was when we went over to the palms hotel and casino. we decided to go to hart & huntington tattoo shop and see where they film the tv show "inked". it was cool to see. after i left i saw will sasso from mad tv on fox. but guess who i saw at the casino? hint, baseball player, cant get hall of fame, doesnt gamble. yep pete rose. it was kinda funny to see him in a casino. i dont know but it seems like thats the last place i would want to be after a gambling scandal.

vegas shows

i had forgotten what it feels like to be in the audience. going to vegas totally inspired me once again. we saw penn & teller and "o"(cirque du soliel) , lance burton, mac king, and dirk aurthor.
my favorite show was"0". i was blown away by the creativity. i was truly amazed by the production of the shows. i needed to feel awe. i dont get that often enough. i guess most people dont. it helps me be creative when i remember what that feels like. i am motivated and inspired. thats a dangerous thing. look out. who knows what i will come up with.

myspace.

im sure you all know about this phenomenon called myspace. it is over 60 million people strong now. most of the people i know are involved with this internet community. u.s.a. today reported that it has become so popular that teenagers are not even giving out their phone numbers or emails anymore. they are giving out their myspace addresses. part of the craze may be the fact that myspace.com gives people their own website, and its all free. i have some friends who are actually addicted to it. seems strange but the addiction is actually common. people get comments from friends and emails from whoever. i joined the myspace drug a few months ago. since then i have connected with many old friends. people i havent seen in years have contacted me. it has been fun. if you dont myspace, then go see what its all about. start with checking out my myspace. www.myspace.com/brockgill

david blaine

monday night magician david blaine attempted to break the world record breath-hold. after living in a water filled sphere for 177 hours he attempted to hold his breath for 9 minutes. on top of that he was going to escape from about 8 sets of handcuffs.
david had to be rescued at about 7 minutes. i was sad for him because i was pulling for him. i am a fan of david blaine. i was very inspired when i first saw him in 1997. he has done some great stuff for magic. at a time when people thought magic was dead, he revived it single handedly. he showed the world that magic is not cheesy stuff for children. david made magic cool again.
i owe alot to david blaine. i have respect for him. i wish he would have escaped from the chains and set a new world record. as a professional illusionist i can say i am impressed with the life and magic of david blaine.

music survey

this month is metal month on vh1. it reminds me of back in the day when heavy metal was the most popular thing around. now music has become so diverse. now there is hip hop and pop and about 50 kinds of rock. there are so many names for them. teen rock, man rock, pop rock, brit rock, emo. i dont even know what they all are. right now we are trying to determine what music is most popular among teenagers. we are getting ready for a fall tour right now and we are trying to figure out what band to get. we want to find what will be most appealing to teenagers. so, all of you high schoolers out there, i want you to post a comment. tell us your favorite music genre and your top 5 bands. also i want all of you to tell me what kids are listening to. we will call this a music survey.
i will randomly pick someone who comments and send them a few cds. it will be a prize. a surprise. and an incentive to do this survey. thanks

7

today we celebrate 7 years of marriage. i met auny in college. we became best friends and decided to get married. that was one of the best things i have ever done. i have to say, there is no way i could be doing what i do without her. she has been the glue that holds this thing together. she prays more than anyone i know. she puts up with alot of junk and keeps going. if you dont know auny, then you are missing out. she is the funnest person i have ever met. after 7 years we have decided to try another 7 years. then another 7, and then another 7. then thats all. nah.
if you want to meet auny you can do it the easy way www.auny.blogspot.com or the hard way. which is try to find her backstage at a show. if you can catch her that is.

cant pray in church

on friday we did a school assembly. it happened to be at a church. it was really wierd because the school didnt have a space to hold all of the kids so they went down the road to the church for the assembly. the funny thing was, even though we were in a church we couldnt pray or talk about god. later that night our show was at a school gym. since it was after school we could talk about jesus. so, at church we couldnt pray but at the school we could. how wierd was that?

6 shows in 2 days

tonight was the last stop on the spring tour. its a good thing because i am very tired. i have almost lost my voice. also i think i broke my heel tonight. here is the story.
we were doing a show with pro bmx team chaos on wheels. we do this intro where we all ride in at once, me on my motorcycle and them following on the bikes. i decided to ride with my tennis shoes on tonight. big mistake. as i was going up the stairs on my bike the back end washed out on me. i put my foot down to brace myself and prevent a fall. as i did my foot hit a concrete step. it hurt. yep, it hurt. i did this right at the beginning of the show, so i had to deal with the pain allllll night. i am going to hold off going to the hospital for now, im too tired.
after doing 6 shows in 2 days we are tired and ready for some time off. i can say without a doubt it was all worth it. tonight we saw 58 people saved. last night we saw 147 people saved. its all worth it. its all worth it.

wanna hear a secret

i must confess something. tonight i did a trick on stage that i cannot take credit for. i am only telling the people who are faithful readers of this blog so dont tell anyone. ok?
here it is. i do a comedy bit where i pretend to read someones mind but its really just me being goofy and obvious. i get a few laughs and then move on to the real trick. one of the things i do is have a random person stand up. then i tell them something like "you have a scar on your knee". they usually say "no scar". usually it gives me a chance to make some jokes about it, then move on. tonight something interesting happened. a guy with a scar on his knee said "yes, i have a scar". no big deal that often happens. but i moved to another person and boldly said "hey you have a scar too... a large scar on the back of your shoulder, half way down your back..." he and the people sitting near him freaked out. it was total luck but i nailed it. he stood up, took off his shirt and showed the scar. it was awesome. i got so lucky. of course i took credit for it. it was a magical moment. so there ya go, theres my little secret. dont tell anyone. thanks friends

the dog is like jesus

i realized last night that "the dog" is alot like jesus. "dog the bounty hunter" comes on the a&e network on wednesday nights. i watch it if i can. i have learned alot about "the dog" watching his show. you might think by looking at him with his long hair and tattoos that he is just a tough bounty hunter with a tv show. i think we should all take a closer look. we might just learn something. to be real honest i think that "the dog" shows more love for people than most all the christians i have ever met. he is alot like jesus. jesus loved the unlovable. we dont usually love the unlovable. we say we do but the truth is we are scared to get close enough to love. last night i watched "the dog" pick up a lady who had been arrested 87 times. she was hiv positive and she was pretty scary looking. i watched the compassion he had for her and it broke my heart. everytime i watch him i am blown away for the compassion he has for criminals. the "low life", "scum of the earth" people need love. we forget that. i think that christians and pastors and most of my friends could take lessons from "the dog". i know i have realized that "the dog " is alot more like jesus than i am sometimes. i think if jesus walked the earth today he would be more like "the dog" than most of us reading this right now. i dont mean to put anyone down but we need to realize the point here. we need to love people. really love people. even those who are unlovable. watch "dog the bounty hunter" and you will see what i mean.

"christian rock is from the devil"

i remember hearing that at church when i grew up. i heard people speak on it and saw books written about it. it sounds so ridiculous but people actually made their ministry goal to expose the evil of rock music. i used to think, "what makes it evil if they are giving god glory?". apparently the beat of the drums makes it evil. thats what they said.
thinking back about that nonsense i realize how much time has been wasted on stupid things that dont matter. there have been way too much arguments about things that dont matter. this may sound elementary to some people but the truth is, we could spend much more time and energy on reaching people. maybe we should let that be a reminder of what we are here for.

feeling the prayer

its almost spooky. i can feel when people are praying for me. many times we do events on wednesday nights. those nights are almost always the best. there are more people saved. the shows go smooth. many of the times, i can feel the power of god coming out of me as i speak on stage. those are the times when people are praying the most. every wednesday night there are churches who pray for us and our ministry. it is so evident when people pray. when we do events we can almost always tell whether or not people have been praying. there is something about it. its the power of god. so thanks for praying for us, we notice.

meetings on a monday

i drove all the way home from texas to go to a meeting this morning. actually i have 2 meetings. i look forward to one of them and the other... well anyway. what people dont see in what i do is the long travel days backed up to early morning meetings. i dont want to complain but today will be a hard day. you guys can pray for me as i have some intense times ahead of me today. nothing life threatening, dont freak out on me. i will be ok. there are some big things going on right now. i have to make some hard decisions that will affect many people and could be costly.
sorry to be so vague and mysterious. i dont want to bore any of you, i just want you to be a part of my team by praying with me about this stuff. more to come soon.
