ben says that he was misquoted on some things.
that is typical with these sorts of things.
i think that this is insightful. they see right thru us when we try to be cool. but, i think that you should just be you. if it comes out cool then great if not then dont worry about it. what is cool anyway.
i do know that rcktwn is doing something awesome. it is very cool, but very effective at reaching people. i am not ashamed to be a christian or connected to rcktwn. i applaud their efforts.
I think what they are doing is great! I've been to rcktwn on several occasions. The people that are going there would NEVER go into a church. Therefore, they are reaching people that are not being reached at all. It sounds like rcktwn is their church in a way. Do they still have skate church on Tues night?
has alot of people been getting saved by going to this? if so thats awesome
Brock,
I bought your Miracles DVD from amazon.com. It's great. We're having movie night at our church for the youth and I'm gonna show it there. Please pray for my Mom. She has a biopsy on Friday. She's a two time cancer survivor and is saved. Her name is Sylvia.
Thanks for all you do!
God bless,
Teresa
yes yes and yes
I love this article personally. I think it's right on. Teens have a wonderful BS radar, just like they said...I love that about them. For instance, if I tried to fit in at the rcktwn place...yeah, they'd be like "um, what's the mama doing here?" :) Well, that is if I was trying to fit in and "be cool," be one of them...that's what they'd say. If I was just there with my pregnant belly and my kids, they'd probably be like, "cool, look at the mom." That's the point...to try to be something you are not, trying to be like them to reach them...they hate that...it's repulsing and stupid.
So, I would never even be interested in going to any of those shows for sure, but that's what Ben and the others like too. They aren't trying to be anything that they aren't...they are being genuine. That's why it works.
The article did seem a bit critical of Christianity, esp. at the beginning of the article. But, it honestly cracked me up. I think it's true what they said.
Bottom line: Genuine works. Trying to be something you aren't doesn't...for any age demographic or any people group you are trying to reach really. I love that Ben and the others don't try to act like they have all the answers too. That is a hard topic...bringing in those kinds of bands (non-Christian yes, but also vulgar and blatantly against the founding values). They are real...they don't know all the answers. But, you look at something like that and can't deny the positive influence it is having. What a great "bridge" between the gap between the world and church...because there is a big one. Probably compared to the gap between the world and church, the gap between the world and God Himself is much smaller. Sounds like rcktwn is pointing them to Jesus, not church...which can be a total turnoff and is really the most important thing anyway.
The picture of Jesus with the lip rings and sock hat...so crazy...growing up in Christianity, you don't even know what to think about it. I think it's kind of funny, but at the same time this voice in my head says it's sacreligious. Jesus probably doesn't care at all though, right?
So, there's my 2 cents. Thanks for sharing. Very interesting.
