cast your nets on the other side.

remember in the book of luke when jesus told the disciples to push out into the deep water and cast their nets on the other side. peter said, "because you said so...". then the nets broke because of so many fish. amazing. "because you said so" is such a powerful statement. read luke 5.

today after i gave that message there was a boy who came up to me and told me his fishing story. earlier today this boy and his father went out onto the pier to fish. they caught 2 fish the first 2 hours. then a lady came by and asked if she could have any fish they caught because she had been fishing all night and caught nothing to feed her family. they said "ok God, lets catch some fish for this lady". they casted into the water and began to catch fish. for an hour and a half they caught fish. in all they brought in 57 fish and gave all of them to the lady.

sounds like God likes fish. ha.. i guess todays post was like a daily devotion for ya. hope you enjoyed it

That's awesome!!!!

Last week we were at SuperWOW(Jekyll), where I was a chaperone. We were crossing the bridge from St Simons in the church van when the van just wouldn't go. We were all girls in the van so we were scared. Someone said lets hold hands and I lead us in prayer, thanking God for helping us to arrive safely. (Funny thing is...a couple girls slept thru the whole thing much like the disciples did...) God answered and we made it back to Jekyll safely. We had 13 females on board. When one of the male chaperones checked the van and backed out of the driveway the brakes failed. He almost ran into the house next door. Seems the brakes had locked up earlier, hindering us from driving too quickly, and saving us from an accident.

When we "cast our net" in life, God ALWAYS provides just what we need!

Thanks for today's devotion!

That's awesome, Brock. And I never realized before that that hated parental phrase was actually biblical. :) I very intentionally avoid that "because I said so," choosing to say something like "because you must learn to obey me" and then of course sometimes we go into the whole "you have to learn how to obey me so that you will automatically and immediately obey God"...blah blah blah. But, yeah...just another parallel of parenting from the Bible. Love that even Jesus told his kids that. :) Ha ha ha.

hey, started thinking about your post again while i was in the shower :) and wanted to clarify. i do realize that it wasn't Jesus that actually said "because i said so." i just thought it was funny though that that phrase was included in the Bible period when referring to obedience. anyhoo, wanted to make sure that was clear and didn't want to come across as someone who just twists scripture, okey dokey? alrighty, b-bye.
